Erasing data

Deleting a record, a card or a category anywhere else in Cofre Ink is written down, so that the deletion can reach your other devices. The danger zone is different: it is the one place where data really leaves, and there is no undoing it.

Where to find it

Go to Settings, Data, and scroll to the last panel, Danger zone, drawn in red. It lists each of your spaces with a button Erase the data, and ends with the row Erase everything. Under each space a line says what will happen: the personal space stays, empty, and a shared space stops existing here.

Save a copy first

If you might want the data again one day, save a copy before you erase. See Backup and restore.

Erase the data of one space

1. On the row of the space, press Erase the data.
2. The dialog Erase the data of Casa lists what goes and says There is no undoing this.
3. In Type Casa to confirm, type the name of the space as it appears. Capitals do not matter.
4. Erase now works only once the name matches. Press it.

The records, accounts, cards, categories, budgets, goals, rules, investments and the history of the space all go.

1. A shared space also loses its members and leaves your list. On a server that means it goes for everybody who was in it. The screen says Casa was erased, with 12 records.
2. The personal space stays, empty, because you always have one. The screen says Personal is empty now. 12 records were erased.

Erase everything

1. On the last row, press Erase everything.
2. In the dialog, type ERASE EVERYTHING. That is the phrase when the interface is in English; in Portuguese it is APAGAR TUDO, and only the phrase of the language on screen is accepted. Capitals do not matter.
3. Press Erase now.

What it erases depends on where the data lives:

1. In browser mode, the whole database of this browser: every space, every profile on this device and the preferences Cofre Ink kept here, such as the theme, the language, the sync places, the tokens you typed and the dates of saved copies. The page reloads on the first screen, as if it were the first time.
2. In server mode, every space you own, on the server. The spaces of other people you only leave, without erasing anything of theirs. Your account stays, and you are signed out.

Every profile on this device

In browser mode the text on screen speaks of your profile, but every profile of this browser lives in the same database, including those added with Add somebody else on this device. Erase everything erases all of them. Ask the others to save a copy first.

Good to know

1. Only the Owner of a space can erase it. An Administrator runs the space day to day and still cannot empty it.
2. The dialog names what goes before you confirm. The number of records appears only afterwards.
3. Erasing reaches only the database of this browser, or of your server. It does not reach the backup files you saved, sync files, a WebDAV folder, an online database, a Google spreadsheet, or a shared space that another person already has on their own device.
4. Nothing about an erase travels by sync: the other devices keep what they have.
